Description:
The event will celebrate International Mother Language Day, observed annually worldwide. Its purpose is to honour the linguistic and cultural diversity both within and beyond the NWU Faculty of Education. Additionally, the event aims to raise awareness among lecturers, support staff, and students about the significance of Mother Tongue Languages and their essential role in education.
Guest Speaker:
Dr. Naledi Mbude-Mehana from the Department of Basic Education will address the provided theme and provide an update on the progress of implementing Mother Tongue-Based Bilingual Education (MTbBE) in schools and role of Higher Education Institutions in the implementation.
Participants and activities:
Academic and support staff and FEDU students are invited to the event. Vibrant performances and language activities will be presented by BEd African Languages third and fourth-year students. Activities will include traditional performances, indigenous games, and traditional music.
