'n Kernaspek wat deur die Leerstoel bevorder en nagevors word is Oop Opvoedkundige Hulpbronne (OOH'e). UNESCO 2019) definieer ’n OOH'e as onderrig-, leer- en navorsingsmateriaal in enige formaat of medium wat in die openbare domein beskikbaar is of onder kopiereg beskikbaar is en met ’n oop lisensie vrygestel is wat gratis toegang, hergebruik, hertoepassing, wysiging en herverspreiding deur andere toelaat.
Die Noordwes-Universiteit is daartoe verbind tot die bevordering, gebruik en skep van OOH'e deur die OOH-verklaring wat deur die NWU se Senaat in Maart 2018 aanvaar. Verder is die Noordwes-Universiteit ook 'n vennoot van die OERu.
