HREiD home

This research group, consisting of academics and post-graduate students from a variety of tertiary institutions, was established to address human rights in education with the emphasis on gender, belief systems and cultural diversity contributing to human rights literacy.  The need to engage in rigorous discussions on these issues arose as a result of collaborations and participation in international projects. The HREiD research group concentrates on human rights and education as praxis and we are fortunate to have experienced scholars who contemplate the different processes that emanate from the study of human rights in diverse education environments.

In short, we aim to

  • develop sustainable strategies to assist educators to infuse a culture of human rights in diverse contexts;
  • conduct cutting-edge research on matters regarding human rights, gender issues, belief systems and cultures in the context of education;
  • contribute to theory and transformative curriculum development;
  • establish a core research group to engage in collaboration to sustain and support the increasing need for research in this domain and to engage in rigorous discourses on Human Rights Education in Diverse contexts.

HREiD members are also members of numerous national and international academic societies and leaders of national and international projects. We present on this website also the results of our projects, our contributions to academic outputs (e.g. articles, books, chapters in books and papers at national and international conferences).

Projects and publications on abovementioned issues are available on this website.  If you need any further information, please send an e-mail. Comments and feedback are welcome as we try to establish a platform for new notions on Human Rights Education.
